A Grade II Listed Building in Ancoats and Clayton, Manchester

Bradley St Artisans Houses

Uploader's Comments

Built in 1787 these three blocks each consisted of two very small house of three rooms one up one down and basement, they were built for artisans or servants working in the houses on Lever St. One house opened on to the street, the other had a door opening on to the yard, the screen walls which enclosed the yards have been demolished and new entrances created. Nothing of the original interior remains.
Conditions must have been poor as whole families lived in these houses although these dwellings were large by comparison with other, poorer houses built later in the vicinity. This group of houses is unique in the Manchester, as they are the only example of their type still standing.
