House, now offices. c1770-1800. Flemish-bond brick, stone
coping to the parapet, cornice, painted stepped voussoirs and
cills; crested double Roman tile roof with brick stacks to
gable ends and two C20 dormers. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys
with attic and dormer; 2-window range to each facade. Some
crown glass; 3/6-pane sash windows to second floor, 6/9-pane
sashes to first floor which have segmental wrought-iron
balconettes with some remaining lead ornament to vertical
bars; to left of ground floor is late C19 plate-glass sash
window and to right one of 6 panes over plate-glass lower
sash. Right return has blocked gauged brick circular window to
attic left; C20 horned 6/6-pane sash windows; that to right of
ground floor has plate glass to lower sash. A reconstructed
wood architrave with an open pediment to left is set across a
flat gauged brick arch; door has 4 raised-and-fielded panels
to the top and beaded panels to the base below a traceried
fanlight. To right is the tip of a segmental gauged brick arch
to basement. INTERIOR not inspected. The house is part of a
fine late Georgian square built on the site of Bridgwater
Castle.
