Public house. Late C18. Painted brick, painted stone coping to
low parapet, cornice, cills and cill bands, stepped voussoirs
and quoins. Double-pitched pantile roof with brick stacks to
gable ends. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys; 3-window range.
3/6-pane sashes to the second floor with a blind window to the
centre; 6/6-pane sashes to the first and ground floors, 2 to
left of the ground floor have brick segmental arches and
keystones. To right is a wide carriage entrance with C20 brick
jambs supporting a fascia with moulded cornice. INTERIOR not
inspected. History: In 1865 this was Phelps's commercial hotel
and posting house; a photograph shows the wall to be
unpainted.
