The right hand guard, instead of thigh boots, has greaves articulated to a knee-piece. His arms have riveted plates full length we see - he is about to draw his weapon. Both guardsmen wear leather coats with steel plates riveted on - enough to turn a sword stroke or a musket ball fired from a distance. They appear to be seasoned campaigners: their long moustachios say -pull my whiskers- : their stance says -if you dare-. (Photo Jul 2012).
