Almshouse group. Circa 1912, possibly by Sir Reginald Blomfield. Red brick with red
brick plinth, band , panels and quoin pilasters. Swept, hipped roofs, plain tiled,
with two centre ridge stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays with casements in outer bays. Central
full height, round arch flanked by pilasters. Shirt cloister wings with stone column
supports and plain tiled roofs link the main block to the wings. 2 storeys, 2 bays with
quoined pilasters and entrances in recessed bays at either end of cloister walks. Wings
to rear and ends include 2 Chestnut Walk to left and 1 North Avenue to right.

Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty old
folk.
