Almshouse group . Circa 1912, perhaps by Sir Reginald Blomfield. Red brick with
moulded brick pilaster quoins to main block and hipped, pyramidal tiled roof, hipped
roof to wing behind. End ridge stack to wing, tall stack with projecting breast on
right hand return front of main block. 2 storeys to front, 1 storey to rear. 2 bays
to front, casements with segmental head entrance arch to left on ground floor.
Single casement on either side of right hand return front. Chimmney breast on both
floors, flanked to right by entrance arch (No 152 Octagon Road) Wing facing Octagon
road has central casement flanked to left by oculus and to right by entrance arch to
No 150.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
