Milestone. Stone possibly mid C18, plate post-dates 1862 Act
setting up Cirencester District of Roads. Limestone with
cast-iron plate. Stone approximately 0.6m high with segmental
arched top has cast-iron plate with segmental arched top with
relief lettering CIRENR DISTRICT CIRENR 1. Road originally
turnpiked 1727 (Cirencester - St Johns Bridge Trust),
controlled by Cirencester Turnpike Trust from 1825,
Cirencester District of Roads from 1862; milestone not marked
on OS 1st edition 1816.
