House and cottage, now house, and garden walls, gate and gate-piers.
C17 cottage, early C18 house. House: coursed sandstone, stone slate
roof, with ashlar stacks. 2 storeys, 5 bays, double range. Rusticated
quoins. Openings have moulded ashlar architraves. Central doorway with
C20 part-glazed door below plain fanlight. Ground floor: sash windows,
moulded string course immediately above lintels. First floor windows,
sashes with glazing bars. Moulded stone gutter, shaped kneelers, ashlar
copings. End stacks and ridge stacks between bays 2 and 3, all with
classical cornices. Cottage to right: rubble with quoins, stone slate
roof. 2 storeys, lower than house. 2 first floor windows with ashlar
sills and lintels, remains of mullioned window in between. Shaped
kneelers, ashlar copings, stacks end and middle. Garden wall of rubble,
with coping, drops in front of house. Ashlar panelled gate-piers on
plinth with cornice and pyramidal caps at right angles to left end of
house. Plain wrought-iron gate. Side wall on right continues round
walled garden. In C18, the house of the Fryers, later the Parkes,
involved in local knitting industry.
