Country house. Dated 1767 and 1795. Later work by John Foss of Richmond,
for T.J. Anderson. Roughcast rubble with ashlar dressings, ashlar garden
front, stone slate roof. H plan, 2 storeys. South front, 1:3:1. Chamfered
quoins. Central part-glazed door in architrave with pulvinated frieze and
pediment above supported on consoles. Sash windows in architraves. Band.
Outer bays form short wings projecting forward at right angles, with hipped
roofs. Corniced stacks at inner junctions of wings. In angles, lead
rainwater pipes with heads dated 1767 and intertwined initials 'T.J.A'.
Rear elevation has rainwater heads dated 1795. East return, garden front,
probably of 1795. 5 bays, the central one projecting slightly, with
chamfered quoins. Central part-glazed door in architrave, with pedimented
Tuscan doorcase. Above, Tuscan Venetian window with keystone, rising up
into pedimented gable of central bay. Sash windows in architraves. Moulded
cornice. Hipped roof. Interior: in front hall, C17 oak panelling with
Grinling Gibbons carving to overmantel, said to have come from a house by
Wren. Rooms have neo-classical fireplaces, and good modillion cornices.
Staircase with column-on-vase balusters.
