GV II
Probably pair of cottages, now one. Mid- to late C17, restored probably
in the early C20. Timber framed with plastered and painted brick infill,
partly rebuilt in painted brick at rear; plain tile roof. Baffle-entry;
plan of 4 framed bays. Framing: large square panels (2 from sole-plate
to wall-plate) with short straight corner braces. Three late C19 timber
framed gabled eaves dormers to front and one at rear, with 2-light leaded
wooden casements; painted brick ridge stack off-centre to right. 3-window
front; probably early C20 two-light leaded wooden casements; panelled and
boarded door between first and second windows from right. Gable ends
have exposed collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts; lean-to
addition at rear. Interior not inspected but it was noted that the internal
partition wall dividing the left-hand bays has been removed. This house
was used as "The Miners Co-operative Stores"in the late C19, an early
example of a co-operative association organised by local lead miners.
