Country house. 1715 for Miles Staveley with C19 additions and restoration
in 1985. Flemish bond, ashlar plinth and details, stone slate roof.
Quoins. 3 storeys, 5 first-floor windows. Central 6-panel door, rusticated
columns and pediment containing the inscription, "M.S. 1715". Flanking and
first-floor windows - sashes with glazing bars in eared and shouldered
architraves with keystones. 6-pane sashes with eared achitraves to second
floor. Eaves cornice and blocking course renewed. Hipped roof, lateral
stack left, ridge stack right. Rear: rendered, repositioned door in
projecting service wing to left has alternate quoined surround and 5-part
lintel. Bay window to right. Garden wall attached to left front, and
service range and courtyard to right, all rebuilt c1985. Interior: in
process of restoration at time of resurvey. Ground floor left: main room
with fireplace, overmantle, wall panels, 4-panel ceiling, door surrounds
with broken pediments, all decorated with plaster relief designs of scrolls,
birds, shells and classical motifs. Doorway through to rear room with bay
window. Rear centre - staircase hall with 2 flights of stairs with fine
gadrooned balusters. Treads and staircase window decorated with key
pattern. First floor: rear right room has original panelling (in process of
restoration) - large moulded panels, and internal shutters.
