Farmhouse and adjoining stable, now house and garage. Circa cl400, extended Cl6
and C17 with further mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Timber-framed with
rendered infill on limestone rubble base, partly painted brick refacing and
replacement walling with plain tiled and corrugated iron roofs. Originally
a cruck hall house of probably two framed bays aligned north/south and
extended by one framed bay to the south end and by the addition of a cross-
wing of four framed bays at the north gable end. The north bay of the
original part has a large inserted chimney with a brick ridge stack and the
cross-wing has an additional single-bay north wing and external ashlar chimney
with offsets, two square stacks with moulded capping which adjoins the west
bay (in the angle with the main range) and a large east end chimney. Part
two storeys, part single storey and attic with dormers; dentilled eaves cornice
at rear. Framing: cruck-framed original part with two panels from sill to wall-
plate and some close-set studding on west side. Cross-wing has close-set
studding to west end and north side and the collar and tie-beam truss at the
west end has close-set struts. The north wing has three panels from sill to
wall-plate, short straight upper corner braces and a collar and tie-beam truss
with two struts to collar and V-strut in apex. West front elevation: main
part has a C19 and a C20 canted bay window, two gabled dormers with 2-light
casements and the main entrance has a ledged and battened door. The cross-wing
gable end has two ground floor C20 cross-casements and a 3-light first floor
casement. There is a single-light casement on the south side of the north wing.
Former stable adjoins south end of main part. Two framed bays and two levels;
two panels from sill to wall-plate and truncated collar and tie-beam truss
with four struts at south end. There is a large C20 garage door in the south
elevation. Interior: three pairs of full cruck trusses survive. Inserted C17
chamfered cross-beamed ceiling in original north bay and also large fireplace.
Moulded stone fireplaces on both floors of west bay of cross-wing; ground floor
one has 4-centred head. The rear two bays of the cross-wing have substantial
lateral main ceiling beams and a very large fireplace about 12 feet wide.
