(formerly listed with Middle
Farmhouse)
GV II
Shelter shed. Probably late C18 with mid-C19 alterations. Limestone rubble
with plain tiled roof, half-hipped at west end. Eleven bays aligned east/west,
open on south side and supported on timber posts. The fifth and sixth bays have
C19 brick infill and there is a square window. The roof has intermediate tie-beam
trusses with raking struts. The floor is cobbled and along the rear wall (except
in bays five and six) is a continuous timber manger supported by posts on sand-
stone blocks and which are linked together and braced against each tie-beam.
In front of the manger is a brick wall about 18 inches high which has semi-
circular sandstone drinking troughs projecting from it at regular intervals.
Behind the manger is a narrow feeding passage. An early and rare complete
surviving example of a shelter shed feeding arrangement.
