The Old Post House

House. Early C17; restored and extended C20. Timber-framed with rendered
infill, on limestone rubble base, refaced with brick and rendered to south
front and west bay and with thatched roof. Four bays aligned east/west;
main entrance faces large chimney in second bay from east end to form a
baffle-entry plan. There is also a large chimney with offsets to the north
wide of the west bay which has a rebuilt stack. Single storey and attic with
dormers. Framing: two panels from sill to wall-plate visible in north eleva-
tion; wall posts and short straight upper corner braces survive at east end
and above is a truncated collar and tie-beam truss with the struts missing.
South front elevation: windows are all C20 casements; there is a bow window,
a 3-light, a 2-light and a single-light window on the ground floor and four
eyebrow dormers with 2-light windows. The main entrance has a half-glazed
C20 door. There is a C20 single-storey extension at the east end. Interior
not inspected but noted as having two large fireplaces.
