II
Former malthouse and hop kilns. Mid-C18 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Brick, mainly handmade, on sandstone rubble base, plain tiled roof with parapet at west gable end. Six plus four bays aligned east/west; two hop kilns situated in fourth and fifth bays from east end. Two levels and cellar with dentilled eaves cornice; header ventilation courses to four westernmost bays. North elevation facing road has three two-light windows at ground floor level and four openings at upper floor level. Attic lights in gable ends. Main entrances at rear. The two hop kiln bays are surmounted by slate-covered pyramidal roofs which project from and above the main roof. Immediately west of the hop kilns there is a cowl and weathervane mounted on the roof ridge. This large brick building is prominently situated forming a major feature of the farmstead and is important to the setting of Lower House Farmhouse (qv).
