Farmhouse, and adjoining stable and hop kilns. C17 with mid-C19 alterations
and additions. Timber-framed, painted brick infill, replacement walling and
additions; plain tiled roofs. Hall and cross-wing plan; hall of two framed
bays aligned east/west (the lower bay of which is used as a stable) and
having a central chimney with brick stack to rear of ridge; cross-wing of
two framed bays at west end with C19 external chimney and large stack.
Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: hall part has wall-posts
and upper row of panels visible; cross-wing has two rows of panels at
first floor level, a short straight upper right corner brace and a collar
and tie-beam truss with central strut, outer raking struts beneath collar
and V-strut in apex. North front elevation: hall part has a 3-light ground
floor casement, two gabled dormers, the left one having a square opening to
a hayloft and the other having a 3-light casement; stable door in left bay;
cross-wing gable end has a ground and first floor 3-light casement; the
ground floor one has a cambered head and to the left of it is the main
entrance which has a gabled canopy and C19 door. Interior not inspected.
A C19 brick stable bay adjoins the east gable end; it has a 2-light upper
level window and a stable door with a cambered head. To the east of this
are two square brick hop kilns with pyramidal slate roofs, the rear one of
which has a cowl. A C19 lean-to addition encloses the external chimney
to the west elevation of the cross-wing.
