3/170 Minnimeer Farmhouse and adjoining
- carriage house
GV II
House and adjoining carriage house. Circa mid C17 extended with carriage house in
mid C19. Stone rubble and cob. Slate roof with gable ends. Rendered end stacks;
the higher right hand stack is well constructed of roughly dressed stone with slate
galetting and appears to have been inserted in the cob end wall.
Plan: Two room and through passage plan heated by end stacks. Hall-kitchen on higher
right hand side and smaller, probably parlour on left. Stone rubble cross wall on
higher right hand side of passage continues almost to eaves level. Through passage
blocked to rear by a circa C19 dog-leg stair. Circa C18 outshut added to rear of
lower end and passage and carriage house added on higher right hand gable end in
circa mid C19.
Exterior: Two storeys. Ground slopes down steeply to the left and the house is built
down the slope with the C19 carriage house on the higher, right hand side. Regular 3
window front with early C19 door flanked by C19 3-light casement with HL hinges to
left and 2-light casement to right. First floor with probably C19 2-light casements
to left and centre and renewed 1-light casement to right. Stone rubble probably C19
buttress to left and C20 buttresses near centre and to right. Carriage house set
slightly back to right; of two storeys with wide brick segmental arched opening on
ground floor.
Interior: Roughly chamfered floor joists to passage and left hand room and boarded
ceiling in right hand room. The fireplace in the right-hand hall kitchen has a large
chamfered granite lintel to the fireplace, and the opening to the fireplace has been
reduced slightly in size probably in the C18 or C19 by the insertion of stone rubble
and granite jambs. Cloam oven.
Roof structure probably renewed in C18 with roughly cut principals with lapped and
pegged collars.
