TREMAINE TRUSELL
SX 28 NW
7/180 Farmhouse on north side of
- settlement at Trusell
GV II
House. Circa late C19, possibly with earlier origins. Stone rubble with granite
quoins. Slate roof with gable ends. Brick end stacks.
Plan: Double depth plan with entrance to left of centre; kitchen on right and
parlour on left, both heated by end stacks. Stair opposite entrance with dairy to
rear left and unheated service room to rear right.
Exterior: Two storeys. Regular symmetrical 2-window front with entrance to left of
centre; C19 door and C19 brick porch flanked by C19 mullion and transom window to
left and similar larger C19 window to right. First floor with two C19 2-light
casements. Set into the rear elevation above the entrance are two carved granite
panels with the initials S.P. (Parsons) and the date illegible. These may have been
reset from an earlier house.
Interior: Especially complete. The right hand hall kitchen is heated by a large
fireplace with circa late C16 or early C17 granite chamfered lintel and jambs with
concave stops. The fireplace has been partly blocked. Almost complete dairy to rear
left.
The outbuildings to the north east contain the remains of a circa late C16 chamfered
granite segmental arch. It is possible that the early remains of dressed stone in
the back wall of the house and in the outbuilding either came from an earlier house
on the site or from the disused farmhouse to the south. (qv disused farmhouse south
east of Trusell Farmhouse.)
