Disused farmhouse and adjoining shippon. Probably C17 with shippon added in circa
late C18. Stone rubble and cob with some granite quoins to outshut. Rag slate
roofs; higher roof with gable ends to house on right and slightly lower roof with
half hipped end to shippon on left. Well fininshed projecting stone rubble end stack
on right hand gable end with moulded strings and set offs.
Plan: The house is built down the slope with a shippon attached on the lower left
hand end. The house probably had a two-room and cross or through passage plan, the
smaller right hand room at the higher end heated by an end stack. It is uncertain
how the larger left hand room was heated. There appears to be the remains of a stair
projection on the front of the lower left hand room. In the circa later C18 an
outshut was added across the front of the house and a shippon with a loft above was
added on the lower left hand end.
Exterior: Two storeys. Ground rising to right. House to right has a long single
storey outshut built across the front elevation with C19 doorframes to left and right
and inserted opening near centre. Timber window frame to right. Set back, on the
lower left hand side is a 2 storey range comprising the shippons on the ground floor
and lofts above; timber plank doors on ground floor flanked by narrow long
ventilation slits and with loft doors above. Rear elevation of house, probably
originally the front, has an asymmetrical 3 window arrangement with C19 2-light
casements, the ground floor windows partly replaced in the C20.
Interior: House has some C17 chamfered ceiling beams, the floor joists to the right
probably replaced in the late C18. Fireplace in right hand room has chamfered timber
lintel with stone rubble jambs. A-framed roof trusses appear to be largely of C18
and C19 construction although not fully accessible.
