Stables. Late C18 with early C20 alterations and additions. Red brick in
Flemish bond with stone dressings and graduated stone slate roof. 2
storeys, 9 bays. 1:2:3:2:1. Stables square in plan but with C20
alterations and extensions to rear. Main front: stone plinth. Wide end
bays and central 3 bays break forward. Large central stepped, full-height,
round-arched carriage opening flanked by blind round-arched openings. To 2
bays on either side of central 3 bays, round-arched openings with 4-pane
sashes. Outer bays have full-height triple, stepped round arches with early
C20 openings, two 4-pane sashes below, 2 quadrant sashes above. First-floor
stone band. Square louvred openings with stone sills and flat brick arches
flanking central arch and 2 circular windows to either side. Moulded stone
eaves band. Central 3 bays have moulded pediment with clock. Roof hipped.
Ventilation louvres to ridge. Formerly the stables to Thornton Hall, which
is now demolished.
