Outbuilding, formerly part of dwelling. C16 timber-frame portion added to and
altered early C19. Stone, brick and timber-frame with C20 interlocking tile roof.
Single storey, part with loft; 2 x 3 bays. Gabled garden (south) front: left part,
C19, of herringbone-tooled coursed squared stone, has one large C20 window. Right
part has quoins on right and rubble plinth; section of close-studded timber frame
above, the part on the left with studs on plate, midrail, upper plate with straight
brace from wall post, wattle and daub and brick infill; the part on the right has
been removed leaving a large opening with brick above; the gable is of orange-red
brick in English garden wall bond with the ends of timber joists visible. Brick
ridge stack. Right return: left part of rubble and assorted brick; right part
of brick with C20 board door on right. Left return: C19 part (on right) of stone
with 1 window does not extend as far as the earlier part which has a stone ground
floor, and offset first floor with stone quoins and rendered brick and stud wall.
Interior: right-hand section has chamfered cross-beams and joists supporting broad
floorboards of upper room; later stone fireplace; roof trusses with curved struts
to purlins, as in wing of farmhouse (qv).
