Garden wall with gate piers. Mid-late C17. Coursed squared stone and ashlar.
Encloses rectangular garden. Chamfered plinth; roll-moulded, saddle-back coping
to front and rear walls; 3-course, triangular-sectioned coping to return walls.
Wall on left of house slopes down from first floor with segment-arched opening by
house; wall on right of house is slightly lower. On each side, wall turns to run
forward, each wall having doorway at house end with 1970s board door under keyed
flat arch on imposts with cornice and blocking course. Turning along the front,
the side walls ramp down to height of approximately 1 metres and terminates in
central gateway. Gateway has square-section, ashlar piers with attached pilasters
to front with moulded plinths and capitals; corniced entablatures to each pier
surmounted by ball-on-cushion finials; and wrought-iron gates of 1970s in C17 style.
Inside the garden, the side-doorways are flanked by small round-arched niches with
imposts.
