House, later C18. Finely-coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone.
Roof, renewed in modern pantiles, with stone dressings. 2 storeys,
2 wide bays. Slightly off-centre 6-panel door, top glazed. At
left 3-light Yorkshire sashes under wide lintels with keystones.
At right early C19 sashes under narrower keyed lintels. Roof has
swept eaves, corniced stacks at right and centre of ridge. At left
a 2-storey, 1-bay cottage, once part of the same property. All
openings have been altered but it is included because integral
with No. 40; corniced left end stack. Square kneelers at both ends.
