6/119 Butchers Shop and Cart Shed

Butchers shop, loft and possibly cart shed, now empty. Circa late C18.
Rubblestone, partly rendered with timber frame on first floor of left hand side.
Rendered side wall and slate hung left hand gable end to first floor. Slurried
scantle slate roof with double gable ends to front and rear. Single depth plan. 2
storeys, asymmetrical 2-window front. Ground floor, left hand side with 10-pane
shop window with glazing bars under timber lintel. To right, plank door with small
square 4-pane casement adjoining under timber lintel. Above in slate hung front on
left-hand side C20 2-pane casement. In rubble stone gable end on right hand side
double plank door to loft under timber lintel.
Right hand end abuts rubble stone retaining wall of adjoining garden. The ground
floor left hand side wall is canted and surmounted by a shallow ventilation slit
which continues along the depth of the building and is covered with gauze.
Adjoining on left hand side, a single storey building with polygonal end, open front
and sides, rendered rubble walls and a scantle slate roof. Possibly built as a cart
shed and later affording access to the slaughter house to rear.
