Estate cottage. Late C19 altered C20. Brick with diaper patterning in
dark headers, stone dressings, fish scale gabled roof. Irregular plan
with one large and one smaller gable facing west with decorative carved
bargeboards with dropped finials; large chimney between with fluted
shafts, stone base and elaborate offset head. One storey. Two 3-light
casement windows in stone surrounds, glazing altered. Entrance porch on
south side of larger gable. The cottage was built as part of the Walter
model estate village of which Bear Wood (listed in the Parish of Arborfield
and Newland) was the large house built for John Walter.
