Formerly Inn, now house. Mid-C17 with mid-C18 and Cl9 alterations. Slobbered
squared rubble, stone dressings, slate roof. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Central entrance
has plain surround; 6 panel door, upper 4 glazed. Left-hand ground floor 4-light
window with flat faced mullions; 6 pane casements and fixed lights. Right-hand
ground floor window has mid-C18 moulded surround; 24 pane sashes. 2 flat faced
mullioned casement windows on upper floor: 3 light to left with leaded panes, and
2 lights to right. All windows have timber hoodmoulds (probably C19). Massive
projecting left-hand gable end ridge stack. Interior: C17 fireplace with chamfered
surround and segmental pointed arch on ground floor, with similar fireplace on upper
floor. King post roof truss with trenched purlins of re-used timbers, some with
carpenter's marks. Home of Dr Charles Buck friend of Elgar, who
occasionally stayed at Cravendale.
