House. c.1660, early C19 and mid C20. Timber-framed, rendered and cement
tiled roof with original axial ridge stack of red brick with recessed panels,
entablature and string course. Right hand gable end cased or rebuilt in
brick. Lobby entry plan. Two storeys. Three C19 flush frame casements at
first floor and two at ground floor on either side of doorway to lobby
entry. Adjoining early C19 annexe at front of clay bat and framed upper
gable end, on brick plinth. Cement tiled. Single storey original stair
turret at rear now incorporated in C20 extension. At east gable end an
original oriel window of three lights, now blocked, on shaped brackets with
tiled pediment over. Inside: One first floor room has overmantel of four
round headed arches enriched with jewel ornament and flanked by two cupboard
doorways with square sunken panelling, all under a modillion cornice.
Another room at ground floor has fragments of similar panelling. The annexe
was possibly an early-mid C19 shop addition, similar to that at No. 15 West
Street (qv) and No. 14 West Street.
