House. C15, with major alterations of c.1600. Timber framed, plastered, roofed
with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays facing S, with late C16 axial chimney
stack near middle. C17 2-bay service wing to left, with end chimney stack, and
full-height lean-to extension beyond, with corrugated iron roof. 2 storeys and
attics in main house, one storey and attic in service wing. Altered c.1600 to
present 2 feature fables to front, with a short space between them mainly
occupied by the chimney stack. Ground floor, 3 C20 casements, one early C19
sash of 9 lights and one of 12 lights. First floor, one C19 casement in gabled
dormer of service wing, one C19 horizontally sliding sash window of 12 lights,
one C20 casement. Attic gables, 2 C19 casements. 4 grouped octagonal shafts.
Early C20 gabled porch. The interior has jowled posts, and heavy studding with
curved bracing trenched outside. The original floor at the right end has a
chamfered beam with step stops, and plain joists of horizontal section jointed
to it with unrefined soffit tenons. The inserted floor at the left end of the
main house has a chamfered beam and plain joists of horizontal section supported
on pegged clamps. In the rear wall at the right end an unglazed window is
present below the wallplate, blocked, with one diamond mullion visible. The
roof has been wholly rebuilt c.1600, the original wallplates severed by large
frieze windows at back and front. The house has remained unusually unaltered
