of former stable
court to north of
Lambton Castle
II

Castellated centre-piece on west side of quadrangular stable block. Mid C19.
Tooled dressed sandstone front and painted brick rear; Welsh slates on front
and graduated green slates on rear; brick chimney stacks.

2 storeys, 3 bays. Tudor-arched carriage entrance, first-floor string, carved
Achievement of Lambton Arms and embattled parapet on corbels. Taller flanking
semi-octagonal towers with staggered loops and carved animal heads beneath
projecting embattled parapets. 2-light mullioned windows under hoodmoulds
with 8-pane sashes on corbelled-out gabled half dormers with identical 2-light
windows in end bays. Roof has chamfered coping on gables and square footstones.
End stacks.

Painted brick remainder of quadrangle and detached coach house in yard are not
of special interest.
