Lambton Castle

South terrace retaining wall. Circa 1822-8 by Ignatius Bonomi. Ashlar sandstone.

Tall buttressed wall runs east for c.90 metres then north-east for c.35 metres.
Later and shorter abutments between buttresses. Embattled parapet with semi-
octagonal, corbelled-out turrets above each buttress; similar square-plan turret
at west end; flight of stone steps at east end.

Unstable due to mining subsidence at time of survey.
