One of the lodges to Bramall Hall. 1884, designed by George Faulkner Armitage. Brick with some timber framing, the whole painted and panelled to appear completely frame construction; tiled gable-end roof. Irregularly cruciform in plan; 2 storeys. Each wing with bargeboarding, herringbone to gable wall, coved jetties to 1st and attic floor, close-studding with more complex designs to the public fronts. Varied fenestration with one and two-light casements, most with the original diamond leading, some breaking into the coving. Angle porch with pentice roof on shaped brackets; half-glazed door. Services and yard contained within brick wall, painted to represent timber framing. Red brick ridge stacks. The lodge was built when the medieval timber-framed Bramall Hall was restored and the present grounds laid out, and is a good example of a small-scale domestic design by this nationally important architect.
