Covered garden seat 1811, the first work of Jeffry Wyatt (later Sir Jeffry
Wyatville) for John 6th Duke of Bedford. Gothick style, with sham plaque to
ceiling showing "H.B. 1145", apparently referring to the founding of Woburn
Abbey by Hugh de Bolebec in 1145. Painted timber structure with slate roof.
Semi-octagonal plan with half-pyramidal roof. Stands on stone paved base.
Externally of plain planks. Interior has applied moulded timber decoration.
Walls have blind pointed-arched arcade with slender columns and cusping.
Slatted bench around sides has moulded supports. Ceiling has cusped panel
decoration, and foliate boss to apex. Front elevation has imitation
buttresses and moulded piers surmounted by finials to outer angles. Moulded
pierced bargeboards imitating cusping.
