Lobby-entrance house, C17, extended in late C19. Timber framed, weatherboarded,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays aligned approx. N-S with central
chimney stack, forming lobby-entrance to E. Original rear wing from N end,
with external chimney stack to S. Late C19 extension in SW angle, aligned N-S,
incorporating stack above, and with main range forming twin gables to S. Lean-
to extension to N, C19 E elevation, central glazed door in gabled trellised
porch, 2 C20 casement windows on each floor. Both chimney stacks have vertical
slots between flues, a C19 treatment which is found also at other houses round
Debden Green, all formerly of the Debden Hall estate. S (garden) elevation
has carved bargeboards on both gables, and on a gabled porch, similar in style
to those at Algars, Debden Green. Heavy studding exposed in upper part of
original rear wall, now an internal partition. Axial beams to N and S of
central stack at both floors, plain-chamfered with lamb's tongue stops, joists
plastered to soffits at ground floor. Above first floor, joists removed and
ceiling rebuilt at a higher level.
