II
Crosswing of C15 hall house, with extensions of the C17/18 and C20. Timber
framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Service crosswing
aligned approx. E-W, originally jettied to the E, of a hall house which formerly
extended to the S, demolished. Replaced on the same site by a C17/18 building
of 2 storeys with hipped roof. Internal chimney stack at the junction, blocking
the eastern of a pair of twin doors originally opening off the cross-entry of
the medieval hall into the service crosswing. 2-storey rear extension, C20.
Single-storey lean-to extension in NW angle, C20. Single-storey extension to
N, C20. 2 storeys. E elevation, 6-panel door in middle of C17/18 range, simple
doorcase with shallow hood, late C18/early C19. 3 C20 casement windows. First
floor, 4 C20 casement windows. In crosswing, exposed joists of horizontal
section, unchamfered. Some exposed heavy studding. One of a former pair of
service doorways with 4-centred arched head, blocked. Both ground floor hearths
substantially altered in C20.
