School, now houses. Dated 1865 above door with conversion to
dwellings c1985. Rock-faced coursed squared Cotswold stone
rubble with freestone bands, decorative tile roof. Gothic
Revival style. H-shaped plan. Hall with classroom cross-wings
and entrance porch at angle to left.
EXTERIOR: street front: large gables flank 3-lower-gabled
recessed centre. End gables have 3 pointed windows, each with
3-light stepped lancets with trefoil heads and quatrefoil
above. Circular window with triple quatrefoil above. Each of
the centre gables has similar 2-light window with quatrefoil
above. Doorway to left in gabled porch a renewed pointed door
with double-chamfered arch to head and hoodmould with finial
to apex. Banded roof of red tiles with grey scalloped tiles,
fretted ridge, central hall ventilator with louvred vents and
tall hexagonal fleche. Side elevations similar, four 2-light
windows but only 3 gables. Rear windows of wings: 4 stepped
trefoil-headed lights, quatrefoil over.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
The Middle Pointed Gothic is the principal element in the good
design quality of this otherwise conventionally-planned
school.
