Description

AYLTON CP AYLTON
SO 63 NE

5/11 Cow house about 65 yards
north of Court Farmhouse

GV II

Stable, now cow house. Probably late C17 to early C18. Sandstone rubble
plinth, timber-framed with weatherboards and corrugated iron roof. One
storey and loft, two bays aligned north/south. East elevation: has entrance
to left of centre and two panels of riven oak laths visible below wall-plate.
Frame is three panels high from plinth to wall-plate. Interior: raking struts
from ties to principals. The size of the framing and the presence of holes
and grooves in the rails indicate that the structure was originally not
weatherboarded. Forms an important feature in the farm group belonging to
Court Farmhouse (qv) which extended around the parish church (qv).
