GV II
Large detached house, now subdivided. c1800. Ashlar limestone;
ashlar chimneys; Welsh slate roof. Three-storey with cellar,
double-pile plan; 2-storey part at north end. East front: 5-
window fenestration, sashes without glazing bars to ground floor,
12-pane middle floor and 6-pane upper floor sashes. Plain upper
floor level band. Central doorway with pedimented Ionic porch,
moulded architraves and 8-panel fielded door. Modillion eaves
cornice with blocking course; hipped roof. Three-window
fenestration to lower 2-storey block to right, mostly with glazing
bars removed. West front: 3-window fenestration, sashes without
glazing bars except central middle floor Venetian window. Central
6-panel door to cellar with flanking single lights; outer 9-pane
sashes. Single window fenestration to lower block to left, 4-pane
sashes above cellar door with rectangular light above. Lean-to
outbuilding projects forward to right with doorway at end having
moulded architrave and keystone. Modillion cornices and blocking
course continued from front. Sides: mixed sash fenestration,
north end having blocked Diocletian window above 2-storey block.
Central part of parapet swept up with 2 chimneys with moulded caps.
Interior: main staircase with turned balusters and swept handrail.
Other rooms not inspected. Brimscombe Cottage (q.v.) adjoins main
building to north.
