Pair of houses. Mid C19 for Nelthorpe Estate. Brick in Flemish stretcher
bond to front, porches and wings; brick stacks; coursed limestone rubble
with brick dressings to sides and rear. Welsh slate roofs. Plan: double-
depth main range with 2 rooms to front flanked by entrance halls and single-
room wings. Central range 2 storeys, 2 first-floor windows, flanked by
single-storey, single-window wings. Plinth. Projecting gabled porches with
chamfered rubbed-brick 4-centred arch entrances to front, blind chamfered
square-headed openings to sides, bargeboards with drop finials; 6-beaded-
panel door to left (Linden Cottage) with central glazed panels, and 6-panel
door to right (The Cottage) beneath 4-pane overlights in architraves. 16-
pane sliding sashes to wings with sills and hood-moulds; 3-light sliding
sashes to main range with glazing bars, sills and hood-moulds. Similar,
slightly smaller first-floor windows. Ornate bargeboards. Large central
axial corniced stack to main range with 4 clustered diamond-shafted
chimneys; corniced end stacks to wings with single diamond-shafted chimneys;
lateral stack to rear with pair of shafts.
