Farmhouse. Probably C17 with later alterations. Timber-frame, sandstone
rubble and brick, mainly roughcast. Sandstone slate roofs with sandstone
rubble and brick stacks. T-plan of three by three bays with cross-wing at
north-west end. Cellar, two storeys and attic. North elevation has three
first floor windows, a rectangular central early C20 light, flanked by a
pair of 2-light contemporary casements. Above each window is a gable, the
central one with two exposed curved braces and a pair of thin vertical
posts. Ground floor of right gable has a 3-light casement. Gabled porch
with 6-panelled mid-C19 door to centre. Interior has ogeed board, probably
a former doorhead attached to underside of staircase. Concave chamfer-stops
to ceiling beams. Ledged C17 door with strap hinges in attic. Roof trusses
have queen struts to collars above which are raking struts. (RCHM, Vol III,
p 135).
