House, now public house. c1620 with mid-C18, mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations.
Timber-framed, brick replacement walling and refacing, rendered, with machine-
tiled roofs and parapets at gable ends. T-plan; main part of three framed
bays aligned east/west; central chimney bay has three star-shaped rendered
brick stacks and forms a lobby-entry plan; central rear wing of one framed
bay. Two storeys, attic and cellar. No framing visible externally.
South front elevation: central two-storey porch wing with flanking single-
storey lean-to additions to outer bays; left lean-to addition has a canted
bay window and right lean-to addition has an oriel window on a shaped
bracket; first floor cross-casement above each addition, porch wing has a
square first floor light and a C20 door with a cambered head. Attic lights
in gable ends. Interior: about sixty per cent of framing said to survive.
Rear wing has an original oak open well staircase with moulded handrail,
square newels and spiral splat balusters. C19 and C20 additions to rear
left. (VCH 4, p 285).
