SO 72 SW TAYNTON GLASSHOUSE


7/244 Monk's Cottage

II

Cottage; late C17. Timber-frame, wattle and daub or rendered
infill; random rubble to extension; tiled roof. Two-bay, 1-room
deep, 1½ storey building in centre, single-bay single-storey
extension each end. Entrance front: left stone extension, flush
panelled door on right, flat timber-lintel. Stonework for chimney
for first panel to right in house: framing beyond 2 panels high.
Two-light casement, late C20 half-glazed door behind open, gabled
timber porch, low stone walls below each side: 2-light casement to
right. Lean-to dormer to Left front door; gable chimney on
ridge, left gable. To right timber-framed extension, top half
glazed, 7 lights in all, very shallow hipped roof. Floor beams
originally tenoned through studs, but floor raised late C20, stairs
replaced.
