Farmhouse; early C17. Brick-nogged timber framing, on part
brick, part random-rubble stone plinth; plain render to entrance
facade, reported to be on timber-framing; Sussex-bond brickwork to
extension: slate roof. Three bays wide, part 2 rooms deep,
originally L-plan, enlarged at one end: 2 storeys with attics.
Entrance facade: boarded door under gabled porch, up 4 stone
steps: side walls brick, open timber front. Either side a 3-
light casement window, left below cambered brick head to cellar
opening. Late C20 extension on left. First floor 3-light casement
on right, 4-light on left. Gable chimney left end of original
house. Right return timber-framed, 2-panel high per floor: 4-
pane wide ground floor, 2-light casement first, with straight
braces tie beam to wallposts. Two collars to gable; late C20 two-
light casement. Rear, high plinth; left large stone chimney
projection, 2-light casement to left on ground floor: on right
stone extended up to projecting wing. Slight batter to plinth to
wing: boarded door to cellar on right. Ground floor close-
studded framing, 2 panels high: 2-light casement window on left,
single pane below to cellar stairs: 2-light casement on right.
Brick extension on right, 2-light casement with cambered brick
head. First floor: 2-panel high framing to left of chimney: tall
brick stack above eaves level. Framing to wing 3-panel high: 2-
light casement on right. Two collars to gable over, single-pane
late C20 window. To right brick extension, 2-light casement as
ground floor, gable on right return.
Interior: heavy chamfer to beams on ground floor front, with
exposed joists in ceiling on left of entrance. Entrance
originally direct to left room: passage formed later. Spiral
stair in right of rear wing: cellar below left half of house only,
with 4 stop-chamfered posts. Two-bay front roof: 2 pairs
purlins, straight windbraces to lower pair from wallplate, square
ridge.
