House, probably late C17, with later alterations, the right end now a
separate dwelling. Brick on low stone plinth, slate roof on 2 levels with
2 modern skylights and chimney stacks at left gable (part corbelled) and
at junction of roofs. Three-bay baffle-entry plan. First 2 bays of 2
storeys, third bay 1½ storeys; bands at 2 different levels; adjoining
doors at junction of 2nd and 3rd bays, a small 1st floor window over the
left door, to the left 2 windows on each floor, all modern casements with
brick heads, that next to the door gauged and slightly arched; one 2-light
ground floor window to the 3rd bay. Right gable has a door and modern
single storey extension, 2 windows above; rear wall has door to 1st bay
and various windows like those at front; attic window in gable of 2nd bay.
Interior: 2nd bay has inglenook with ovolo-moulded bressummer (centre
section missing), heck with peephole, and altered fire window; ovolo-
moulded beams on both floors; quarter-turn staircase of early C18 type;
original doors. History: occupied by Thomas Anderton, yeoman and saddler,
in late C17; licensed for Presbyterian worship 1672. (R. Eaton History of
