Stable block and carriage house. 1841-5, with C20 alterations.
By William Burn for Sir Christopher Turnor. Squared coursed
limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, slate roofs
and octagonal ridge stacks. Courtyard plan, linked to service
wing of main house. Single storey with attics, 9 bay entrance
front with plinth, moulded cornice, plain parapet, slightly
advanced gabled end bays. Central semi-circular headed archway
with 3 rusticated voussoirs, flanked by panelled pilasters having
moulded cornices, topped by urns. Over the arch is a coped gable
with square bellcote supported on semi-circular arches and with
an ogee stone roof. The entrance is flanked by pairs of single
light windows with beyond 2 glazing bar sashes. The end gables
contain 2 light windows and are coped with ball finials. The
inner walls contain glazing bar sash windows and opposite the
entrance are 6 segmental carriage openings with C20 brick
blocking.
