Archway. 1676, re-erected in C19 as landscape ornament to Stoke
Rochford Park for Sir Christopher Turnor. Ashlar with coursed
limestone rubble rear buttresses. Plinth, rusticated quoins and
segmental pediment. Round headed central archway, rusticated,
with key block flanked by panelled Doric pilasters, within the
bases blank semi-circular headed niches with key and impost
blocks, and cornices. Above the arch a rectangular moulded panel
containing date 1676 and inscribed "Quo conspedior eo humilior".
Above the dentillated cornice is a keyed oculus with rusticated
slightly advanced panels to either side. Thought to have come
from the stable block of the earlier house.
