Farmhouse, now house. Late C16 with later additions and alterations.
Timber framed with red brick and rendered infill; plain tile roofs
with C19 wooden finials to gables. L-plan with contemporary or slightly
later half-length outshut to front of hall range. 2 storeys and gable-
lit attic; cellar. Framing: close studding with C20 herringbone brick
infill to ground floor and 3 square panels above to wall-plate; collar
and tie beam end trusses exposed to gable of hall range and front gable
of cross-wing; jowled wall posts. Similar framing to outshut. C20
casements and fixed-light windows in panels of framing throughout, one
on each floor to front gable of cross-wing and one directly below eaves
above entrance to hall range, which has C20 ledged door. Prominent
red brick stack immediately behind ridge in line with entrance has
4 attached and rebated shafts. Interior: timber frame exposed throughout
to ground floor, including to cross-walls; chamfered ceiling beams
and joists and partly rebuilt inglenook fireplaces, plank and muntin
and panelled doors. Main feature of interest is straight-flight oak
staircase to side of fireplace in hall range: solid blocks of oak,
square in section, tenoned into open string.
