9/156 The Crown Public House
GV II
Public house, originally farmhouse. C17 with mid-C18 and C20 additions and
alterations. Timber framed with colourwashed render and C20 plain tile roof,
probably originally thatched. Entrance front: deep plinth. Doorway to left
of centre with 4 lower raised and fielded panels and two upper glazed panels.
Moulded door surround with lugs and triple keystones with convex friezes and
flat-roofed porch. To left of this at ground floor level are two horned sashes
of 3 x 4 panes and to right are two further sashes 5 x 4 panes. The first
floor has, at left, two 2-light windows and two 3-light windows at right.
To the ridge at left of centre is an axial stack of 4 flues. To right and
left are C20 single-storey extensions with hipped roofs masking much of the
gable ends. Rear: C20 extensions with flat and hipped roofs masking most
of the rear.
