SJ 74 SE MADELEY C.P. STATION ROAD

Farmhouse, now house. Late C16, remodelled in late C18 with considerable
later additions and alterations. Timber framed and brick, now stuccoed
to front and roughcast to rear, plain tile roofs with cresting,brick ridge
stacks. Originally 'H'-plan with a hall of bays and projecting cross-
wings, probably each of 3 bays, with additions to the right and rear.
2 storeys and attic; 1:1:1 windows, late C20 plastic-framed sashes,
but in C18 openings; lean-to addition (C18?) between the cross-wings
with moulded parapet and late C19 door to left; further entrance
through late C19. timber porch in angle between right-hand cross-wing
and mid-C19 addition at right angles to right. The gables of the
cross-wings have fretted bargeboards and finials (mid-to-late C19),
exposed purlin ends. To the rear of the left-hand cross-wing is a
mid to -late C19 stable-wing with hayloft over; double doors under a
wide gabled break. Interior: moulded and chamfered beams (late C16)
to ground floor, small parts of timber frame exposed.
