Pair of estate cottages. 1848. Probably designed by Edward Blore, for Earl
Spencer. Ironstone ashlar, with moulded cornice; red brick to rear. Double-span
roof of fish scale tiles to front, slates to rear, has coped gable parapets and
moulded kneelers; central stone stack with C20 brick square shafts. Double-depth
plan. Tudor style. 2 storeys; 2-window range. 2 shallow projecting gabled bays.
Wood mullioned windows with painted iron lattices, of 3 lights with transom on
ground floor, and 2 lights on first floor. Hood moulds. Front and return side
gables have shields with Spencer crest and date. Return sides have porches with
coped gable parapets and kneelers. Chamfered Tudor arch in straight head with
sunk spandrels and hood mould. Sides have chamfered lancets. Inside is a
chamfered Tudor arch doorway and ribbed door. 2-light windows to left. Chamfered
openings with alternating block surrounds throughout. Interiors not inspected.
