Ten Cottages
GV II
Corner block of 3 estate cottages. 1848. Probably designed by Edward Blore, for
Earl Spencer. Ironstone ashlar, with red brick to rear. Fish scale tile roofs,
with slate to rear, have coped gable parapets and kneelers; stone ridge and
external stacks; No.6 has C20 brick square shafts. L-plan, with No.6 in wing to
right return side. Tudor style. 2 storeys; 3-window range. Shallow projecting
gabled bays to left and right. Chamfered Tudor arch doorways to left and right
in straight heads with sunk spandrels and ribbed doors. Wood mullioned windows
with painted iron lattices, and transoms to ground floor, of 3 lights and 2
lights in centre; first floor windows of 2 lights. Bays and all ground floor
openings are chamfered and have hood moulds with alternating block surrounds.
Central gabled half-dormer. Gables have shields with Spencer crest and date.
No.6 is similar, with bay to right of door, and single-light windows to left.
Interiors not inspected.
